Sombrio Beach is known as a hidden gem for surfers and less crowded than Jordan River. Tends to receive a mix of groundswells and windswells and the ideal swell direction is from the west. Sombrio Beach is part of the Juan de Fuca Marine Trail so please respect trail hikers.
Located along the west coast of Southern Vancouver Island Sombrio Beach is a 2-hour drive down Highway 14 west from Victoria or 20 minutes east of Port Renfrew. After the sign head down a rough and windy 2 km dirt road towards a decent parking lot not big enough for campers and motorhomes. A great camping spot in the summer and a stellar surf spot in winter Sombrio is a must-see for its tall trees big waves and hidden treasures.
